Rock Band downloads sell six million

Some six million songs have been downloaded for the music video game Rock Band from Harmonix, MTV Networks and Electronic Arts.

This shows just how popular the game has proved to be, as an increasing number of gamers look to build on the kind of rock star fun that was had in the Guitar Hero series.

MTV’s Paul DeGooyer said: “Thank you to the music lovers who have helped Rock Band reach an incredible milestone of over six million purchased downloads at such an early stage.

“The success of Rock Bank downloadable content to date firmly reinforces our vision and its potential as a platform for music discovery.”

The game allows players to customise their library of music with a selection of rock artists and songs.

Guitar Hero III is the latest in the Guitar Hero series, which allows players to rock out with a guitar controller.
